African Pompano

African Pompano is a member the Greater Amberjack family. This mid-sized fish mostly live in warm waters at approximately 60 – 100 meters down in the ocean. The body is a silvery-metallic blue to blue-green color with the deepest point of the body located between the origin of the dorsal and anal fins and having the head and tail tapering either side.

The meat is firm, buttery, and fatty making this fish an ideal for sashimi and steamed, sautéed, or fried fish menu and even Thai curries namely southern Thai sour curry with crisp green papaya and Pompano fish, steamed Pompano fish with soy sauce, and stir-fried Pompano fish with galangal and black peppers. The African Pompano is considered a hidden gem since only certain fish places carry it namely the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand including Songkhla, Surat Thani, and Chanthaburi as well as Samae San and Sattahip, which are close to Bangkok.
