Ms. Prathum Suriya prides herself on growing environmentally sustainable produce. Not only is she the former national winner of Outstanding Farmer Award in 2009, but she is also the founder of the local organic farming community center in Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai. She is an ideal of success in the eyes of other organic farmers.
With over 2 decades of dedication to organic farming principles, Ms. Phathum leads the local organic farming community center while steering the team as well as new comers towards organic farming practices.
From the belief that farmers are the world’s food producers, Ms. Prathum gradually transformed empty pieces of land to organic agriculture. She learned to farm by trial and error and finally achieved the goals.
She embarked on conventional farming with a little to no knowledge. Once she was able to built a good foundation for organic agriculture, she shared her knowledge, tips, and tricks with the organic farming community. She also convinced other famers to do organic farming. She is happy about where she is today, but It’s been a good long journey. It took the community almost 25 years to fully switch to organic farming business. She has mentored dozens of successful organic producers and currently has 69 team members.
Her 25 years of hard efforts to turn conventional to organic farming and adapt King Rama 9’s sufficiency economy philosophy paid off well.
