How to water plants during a hot day

Summer brings the sunshine and gives vibrancy to life, but it can make people feel hot and hydrated. We can do many things to cope with the heatwave like taking a shower, turning on the a/c, and drinking lots of water. Plants need a little extra care, too. During a heatwave, it’s best to water plants in the morning or evening. Below are some plant care tips.

1. Adequate moisture is essential for plants to grow. Too much water can do more harm than good. Notice that moist soil always looks darker than dry soil. The best time to water our plants is between 6-8 am in the morning and 5 pm in the evening. Avoid watering plants at night since any watering moisture on the plants cannot be expelled. Nighttime watering promotes disease and may cause dieback.

2. Preferably use an adjustable garden sprinkler.

3. Plants should be better watered from the bottom. Bottom watering encourages plants to develop deeper roots as they stretch down to access the moisture.

Make sure to give plants a decent drink in a hot day so that plants can grow to their full potential.
